The Swansea Board of Health would like to thank community members for attending the town’s first Public Health Awareness Fair last weekend.

On Saturday, Aug. 12, the Swansea Board of Health welcomed more than 100 community members to the Fair at Swansea Memorial Park.

Participating organizations offered public health resource handouts, mini-first aid kits, CPR pocket masks, UV detector wristbands, and hazard mitigation flying discs.

Attendees could take part in the Swansea Ambulance Corps CPR demonstrations, and Narcan administration training. Children could have their photos taken in a Swansea Police cruiser, a Swansea Fire truck, and an ambulance. Other activities included a temporary tattoo booth and a booth hosted by the Town regarding its 2023 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update.

The Board of Health town car was on display at the “Become an Honorary Health Officer” table. Children and community members signed a pledge stating they will protect the health and safety of the public and environment, and received an “Honorary Health Officer” badge.

The Board of Health wishes to thank participating organizations, including: the Swansea Fire Department, Swansea Police Department’s Outreach Team, Swansea Ambulance Corps, Swansea Free Public Library, Swansea Animal Control, Swansea Town Nurse, Swansea Farmers Market, South Coast Public Health Coalition – Epidemiology, Bristol County Mosquito Control, Southcoast Health Orthopedics, Vinfen Recovery Connection Center, Seven Hills Foundation, SSTAR, and F.A.S.T. Response Team.

The event also featured local food vendor Big Daddy King’s BBQ and music by DJ Adam Kitchin from Cable Access TV.

“We are very happy that Swansea’s first Public Health Awareness Fair was a great success,” said Board of Health Director Alexandra Nicolosi. “Thank you to all who participated and thank you to those who volunteered their time and energy to bring awareness to public health within our community.”

Added Town Administrator Mallory Aronstein, “Community events like this are so important as they allow us to engage with residents and local organizations that provide quality services. I thank the Board of Health for organizing the event, and look forward to next year’s fair!”
