Town Clerk Diane Pelland is pleased to announce that the Town of Swansea will now have a microfilm reader available for community members to use to access town records.

The microfilm reader will be kept at the Swansea Town Hall, 81 Main St., and can be accessed during the Town Hall’s regular business hours. Appointments to use the microfilm reader are not necessary, but community members are encouraged to call to ensure the records they are looking for are available.

Available records include vital records for births, marriages and deaths. Also available are Town Reports, Town Meetings, Town and State Elections, along with Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals decisions and older Town bylaws. There are a variety of available town records on microfilm with some materials dating as far back as 1671.

Community members will be able to print their microfilm research if they chose to do so but should note that anything over 25 copies will cost 10 cents per page.

“We hope that with the addition of this microfilm reader, community members will be able to access the Town of Swansea’s records in an easy and convenient way,” Town Clerk Pelland said.

Those interested in using the microfilm reader are encouraged to call the Town Clerk’s Office at 508-678-9389 to discuss what is available for research.
