The Town of Swansea would like to share information with community members about its upcoming Special Town Meeting.

Swansea’s Special Town Meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6 , beginning at 7 p.m. at Venus De Milo, 75 G.A.R. Highway.

During the Special Town Meeting, Swansea voters will consider five Warrant Articles. To view the Special Town Meeting Warrant, click here.

Article 4 requests $2 million in available funds for the School Department to conduct a School Feasibility Study which is the first step in the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s grant program. The Feasibility Study will evaluate options for a Joseph Case Junior High School. The Town of Swansea needs to secure funding before moving forward in the process of planning and designing a new school.

Article 5 requests $53 million in funds for the construction  of a new Municipal Complex, which will include a combined Town Hall/Council on Aging and a Highway Facility on the former Del Mac Orchard property.

Currently, the four structures (Town Hall, Town Hall Annex, Highway Garage and Council on Aging) all require various renovations, abatements, improvements, repairs and redesigns. However, renovations would not address many issues with which the town struggles, including disconnecting departments from one another, adequate storage and meeting space. The new Municipal Complex is intended to provide for efficient governing, both managerially and operationally, consolidation of offices, one-stop shopping for residents and business owners, and appropriate gathering spaces.
