SWANSEA — The Swansea Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator Mallory Aronstein are pleased to announce that Lt. Mark Foley has been appointed Chief of the Swansea Police Department.

Foley, a 26-year veteran of the Department, was sworn into his new role during a ceremony on Tuesday, May 7.

“I am extremely honored to accept the role as Chief of Swansea Police,” said Chief Foley. “I am committed to serving our community with dedication, integrity and compassion. Together we will work to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and community members.”

Foley began working at the Swansea Police Department as a reserve police officer in 1998. He then served as a Patrolman from 2000-2012. Following his role as a Patrolman, he was promoted and served as a Sergeant and Patrol Supervisor from 2012-2023, before being promoted to Lieutenant. In addition to his role as Lieutenant, Foley was also the firearms licensing officer.

Chief Foley has also served as a SWAT Operator for the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) from 2005-2013. He is a certified Municipal Police Training Committee Instructor and has served as the Town’s court liaison.

“I am thrilled to congratulate Mark on his appointment as the new Swansea Police Chief,” said Town Administrator Aronstein. “His leadership, experience and institutional knowledge of our town makes me confident that he will be a tremendous asset to our community and our police department.”
