The Town of Swansea welcomes community members to attend the Prysmian Group’s and SouthCoast Wind’s upcoming Brayton Point Project informational session.

WHEN:

Wednesday, July 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Swansea Council on Aging, 260 Ocean Grove Ave.

WHAT:

The Town of Swansea is a neighboring community of Brayton Point in Somerset and has historically been impacted by the plant. In an effort to keep community members informed of plant updates and work that may impact Swansea, the Prysmian Group and SouthCoast Wind will have several members conduct an informational session to answer any questions residents may have regarding the Brayton Point project.

The Prysmian Group is set to bring a state-of-the-art submarine cable manufacturing facility to Brayton Point in neighboring Somerset. As part of the project, the Prysmian group and its partners will produce underwater cables that will be used to bring electricity generated by offshore wind turbines into the power grid.

This project is slated to be the first “tier 1” offshore wind manufacturing facility in Massachusetts, bringing renewable power to the area.

A highlight of the project is that the plant will produce low noise levels and minimal air discharge.

The SouthCoast Wind offshore wind project will be approximately 90 miles south of Swansea and has the potential to generate enough clean, renewable energy to power more than a million homes.

As part of the project, SouthCoast Wind will utilize Brayton Point for its submerged subsea export cables to come ashore and connect to the regional electric grid. The preferred landing areas are the Lee River on the northwest portion of the site and the alternate is the Taunton River on the southeast side of the site.

Through this project, SouthCoast Wind will create local job opportunities; support local organizations and residents, including education programs and workforce training; and help meet climate goals by providing clean, renewable wind energy to the area.
