Chief Eric Hajder is pleased to invite Swansea community members to the Swansea Fire Department’s upcoming 29th Annual Public Safety Day.

Sunday, Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE:

Fire Station No. 2, 50 New Gardners Neck Road

WHAT:

The Swansea Fire Department will be hosting its 29th Annual Public Safety Day next weekend.

The day will kick off with the Parade of Apparatus beginning at 12:30 p.m. The route will start at Fire Station No. 1 (Main Street) then to Gardners Neck Road, Route 6, Maple Avenue, Pearse Road, Route 103 and will end at Fire Station No. 2.

As part of the event, there will be face painting, blood pressure screenings, a state and local police display and an antique fire apparatus display. There will also be fire extinguisher, extraction tool, National Grid and Liberty Gas demonstrations.

Children will have the opportunity to try to hit targets with a stream from a fire hose, as well as try on firefighter gear and air tanks. Attendees will also have the chance to meet Swansea’s public safety members.

A special guest appearance will be made by Sparky the Fire Dog.

The event will also feature door prizes, raffles, handouts and refreshments.

“Swansea Public Safety Day is an annual event that brings together members of the community with our local and state first responders for a fun-filled day,” Chief Hajder said. “We encourage community members to attend this year’s Public Safety Day and look forward to having a great time!”
