Chief Marc Haslam is pleased to announce that the Swansea Police Department will be participating in a Car Seat Safety Check-Up event next weekend.

WHEN:

Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE:

Target, 579 Grand Army of the Republic Highway

WHAT:

Swansea Police will be joining team members at Swansea’s local Target in an effort to raise awareness about car seat best practices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 46% of children’s car seats are installed incorrectly.

At the event, community members will have the opportunity to have their car seats checked by Swansea Police’s Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Certified inspectors will help determine if your car seat is appropriate for your child’s age and size, and will ensure that your safety seat is properly installed. They also will be available to answer questions about child safety seats.

In addition to the car seat checks, Target also will be offering a 20% discount on the purchase of a new child seat if community members recycle their current one. This promotion will be valid the day of the event.

“We encourage all community members to join us at our local Target next weekend to have their car seats inspected by a certified technician,” Chief Haslam said. “By making sure that their child’s seat is installed correctly, parents are ensuring that their child is best protected.”

Those with questions about the event can contact Swansea’s Target at 774- 488-3684.
