Chief Marc Haslam is pleased to announce that the Swansea Police Department has openings for full-time and part-time police dispatchers.

The Town of Swansea is seeking to hire one full-time police dispatcher and several part-time, per diem police dispatchers. Dispatchers will work at the Swansea Police Department as it’s the primary PSAP for 911 calls within the Town of Swansea.

Dispatchers will be responsible for answering and processing all incoming calls using the town’s computer-aided dispatch system and will transfer any calls for fire/medical-related emergencies to the Swansea Fire Department.

The full-time position includes benefits as currently defined in the department’s collective bargaining agreement. The full-time dispatcher will work on a five days on, two days off shift schedule. Preference for shift assignments is based on seniority.

Per diem dispatchers may work regularly scheduled shifts or on a “on-call” basis.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED; have the flexibility to work any shift including nights, weekends or holidays; have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

Massachusetts 911 certification, CJIS Next Test certification or familiarity with police dispatch software (IMC, IMC Lan) are preferred, but not required.

Applications can be found on www.policeapp.com. Those interested in applying should indicate in the cover letter if they’re interested in full-time, per diem or both. Applications, along with a resume and cover letter, must be submitted on www.policeapp.com no later than Feb. 1.

“Our dispatchers are an integral part of our operations as they serve as the first point of contact for community members during most emergencies,” Chief Haslam said. “We are looking to hire additional dispatchers who have excellent communication skills and can remain calm and professional in emergency situations to assist us in our emergency response efforts.”
